Devonian Marine Fossils
It's
amazing what you find with magnification. These fossils are each less
than an inch across. It was only after I photographed them and looked at
the picture enlarged on my desktop that I could see the remains of the
brachiopod shell clinging to the lower valve and the tiny spines
protruding from it, along with the holes left by spines on the upper
valve impression. Closer inspection reveals that
the gastropod is not a mold but rather that shell itself. There is a a
break on the bottom whorl where you can clearly see the edge of the
shell. If you are looking at a small phone screen right now, come back
to this picture and look at it on a big screen!
