Horn Coral

What you see here is the mold of the inside of the bowl at the mouth of the horn. The hold in which it situated is actually the external mold of the entire animal. If I were to fill this hole with some kind of casting material, and then break away the hard original, I would have a reproduction of the complete animal, save for a couple flat spots where the matrix broke away to reveal the fossil. One of these days, I might sacrifice the original to sheer curiosity, but for now I am loathe to mess up what I have, even if I can't really see it.
