Cute as a Button

Got to spend a little time crawling on my hands and knees in the sand a few days ago. Some places, it is much more effective to just wander around picking things up, rather than sitting and sifting/digging in one spot. Most sifters would miss this in the screens anyway. This Macrobacia hilgardii solitary coral from the Cretaceous in Delaware, USA is a fun find. It's only about 3mm across. Locally, they are called "button corals."
